Let's face it: athletes are bored with traditional sports portraiture--just holding a ball and standing still like a statue--they want something more. They are looking for a different athletic portrait—something more dynamic, exciting, and intense. Sportraits fuse the world of portraits and athletics to give your client the dynamic and exciting sports portrait ready to grace the cover of any sports magazine—the photo they’ve been craving. Mixing movement, dynamic lighting, interactive posing, a strong knowledge of sports, and what athletes want is the foundation of this new movement in sports portraiture.

Nature and landscape photography is an inspiring but demanding discipline that requires not only the right gear and techniques, but also creativity and vision. In this class, award-winning Master Photographer Jaki Miller will help you go from nature lover to nature photographer. She will share her vision and techniques in producing wall hangers, loan images and lucrative fine art pieces. Topics to be covered include: Discovering and nourishing your inspiration | Developing an eye for better nature photography | Introduction to equipment, exposure, focus & subject | Planning for ideal light | Improving composition | Knowing when to break rules | Finding creative shots in any location | Overcoming obstacles to reflect your unique perspective | Telling stories through fine art photography
Jaki Miller grew up in southern Ohio and attended West Virginia's Marshall University on a full track and volleyball scholarship. She was an All-American and was later inducted into Marshall's Hall of Fame. Jaki was married in 1987 and has three sons. She earned her Masters in Fine Arts and enjoyed a career in elementary, secondary and collegiate education for 21 years.
Over 15 years ago, she was diagnosed with advanced cancer and went through a year-long, aggressive chemotherapy protocol. Due to her weakened immune system, Jaki was forced to take a year away from her teaching position and the general public. Nature has always been her happy place since childhood and consequently. most of that year was spent enjoying peace and solitude in nature, time with God and His creation.
During that year of cancer treatment, Jaki purchased her first digital SLR camera to document her journey and started posting her nature pictures and thoughts on a blog, which quickly gained an impressive following. She became obsessed with photography (landscapes, wildlife, nature, and eventually portraits) and started learning the art through reading books, taking classes and attending workshops. She started selling her nature and landscape images to local businesses and individuals and also became the go-to portrait photographer in her area.
Despite her love of teaching, she resigned her position in 2012 to pursue a full-time career in photography. She joined PPA (Professional Photographers of America) in 2015 and did the hard work to become a CPP (Certified Professional Photographer) in 2016. She also started entering print competition that year in an effort to improve her craft and reach her goal of the PPA Master of Photography Degree.
In 2016, Jaki was named Ohio Photographer of the Year and PPA Platinum Photographer (4 for 4 merits with three images going into the Loan Collection). In 2017, she was named West Virginia Photographer of the Year and PPA Diamond Photographer (4 for 4 merits and all 4 Loans). She also received the Canon Par Excellence Award by having the highest score in the northeast district. In 2018, she was named Kentucky Photographer of the Year and PPA Gold Photographer (4 for 4 merits and 2 loans) and received the coveted PPA Master of Photography Degree. In 2019, Jaki was PPA Silver Photographer (4 for 4 merits and 1 loan) and was also named an Elite PPA member.
Jaki's landscape and nature images have been published in various national publications and have been featured in the PPA magazine. Her work adorns the walls of many hospitals, banks, grocery chains, homes and other businesses. She has also been a Getty Images contributor since 2008.
Presently living in Calvin, West Virginia with her husband Clark, Jaki owns and runs a photography studio in Summersville. She has a thriving photography business that includes both nature and portrait photography.
